Haivl and some opinions.

Yesterday, one of the most popular website in Vietnam had been taken down or “Temporarily Suspended” as they stated on website, this incident had caused a lot of young people in this communist nation upset, a fraction of them even regretted it such as it was the contributing site which helped many of Vietnamese people relax after “long hard workday”. In my view, this occurrence can be interpreted in two particular ways.

The first aspect is about the freedom of speech in Vietnam. As many of you know, this Asian nation has a strict and rigid and crap policy about media. On one hand, they censored all information stating the info against their “integrity”, not to mention the inconvenient fact that this government readily send anyone to prison if they dare to tell the truth. On the other hand, they set crap newspaper free to do anything, including posting wrong news, crap news about some “celebrities” and of course, using press as a propaganda agent. Back to the taking down haivl incident, this is the perfect combination of these two mentioned aspect of Vietnam’s news policy due to two reasons. First, they use the censoring policy to force it to close. As stated in their announcement, haivl.com has been decried and distorted the image of Vietnamese grands and some ‘inventive’ accusations. As I see it, this is the seriously violation of law, the agent of government convicted a company without having a trial. In addition, it did not show any evidence of violations that haivl was accused. Generally, we can foresee from now on (or since a very long time ago), a person can easily convicted without any evidence, such a nightmare for this ‘impartial social’. The second reason is money, in my opinion, because haivl.com had been bought with 1.5 million dollars, a shocking number even in US, someone has been ‘enlightened’ that online news can make a fortune. So they create the chance to get money, still this is my suspicion but we will see :).

The second aspect of this occurrence is more gentle :D, that is the downside effect of this site on young Vietnamese people. Since its beginning, haivl has been being built its influence on society step by step by expanding from the site posting funny pictures to the news media center. For instance, a plenty of information which you cannot find on any website is on haivl, from many photos about military movements when China settled HD-981 to arbitrary interesting status posting on your facebook wall. This tremendous influence is bad in many ways. Firstly, it get people easily addicted due to its convenient, you just have to go to haivl and you will be updated every news. Unfortunately, those news are mostly useless and biased and that property contribute to make a number of young man become juvenile, stupid and arrogant. The next bad influence of this recently taking-down website is time-consuming. To illustrate it, my case is a good example. Due to the addictive attribute of haivl, I have been wasting time on it, about one to two hours a day. Badly, it is not a straight one or two hours, it distribute through almost entire day. I study for about 20 mins and I access that site for 2 mins, even I know no new post will be uploaded. Of course it interfered my learning but even worse, it is addictive and really hard to get it out of mind. Bottom up, I am so relieved that haivl has been taken down because that eliminated the second worst distraction, after facebook :)).

Here is the essay about the following subject: You should not believe everything on newspaper.

In the dawn of a New Media era, the amount of information that we received is tremendous. The news is everywhere, on TV, on paper, on website – the type could be access anytime, by the plenty of electronics devices. Thus, a person need to filter the uncertain sources of information if he wants to know the right news. In other words, you- the readers should not be convinced totally by everything on newspaper or new media generally.

Firstly, as I stated before, the sources of information is highly uncertain and unverified nowadays. The pressure of being the first one reports news or gets ‘hot’ news make many of journalist impatient and careless about verifying information. On the other hand, the big news corporations may rush their employees writing many of posts to sustain their position and many of readers are so easily convinced that news from prestigious firm is absolutely correct. As the result, few people are try to verify news by themselves.

Secondly, as many source tell about one topic, the information of that topic is increasingly distorted and varied. Because of the unvalidated of information and the increasing demand of news, a number of press are willing to write without careful verifying. We can easily read many of information about food on many of newspaper that contradict to each other. For instance, on a magazine, apples can be reported is better if being eaten without pairing  . Meanwhile, on the other magazine, which positively state ‘from many scientific researches’, apple should be paired before being used as food. This matter of fact happens widely on news nowadays, especially on Internet, where anyone can write about anything they want.

In conclusion, because the information on newspaper is unsure and hardly to validate and the content is inconsistent on others newspapers, I believe that we should not completely trust the news.

Second post

So here I am again, it is Oct 15th 2014. It has been kinda meaningless day for me. According to my ‘schedule’, I must have put the damn toefl essay on this day but from what you can see, nothing has been up. Thus,  I decided to write some crap things about this day.

First of all, it is boring school day. Dr Chau, as always, teaches us with really low pace (I really dunno how to express it correctly). Until this moment, I still don’t get a entire picture about the course.  Before things got very boring, I had hoped for a deep understanding about the Industrial Network Protocols such as DNP3, MODBUS, ETHERNET and so on. Unfortunately, my master seems like he wants to challenge students’s patience or this course really being easy as rumor has it. In the afternoon, Master Hoang came, what a amazing surprise :)), oh God, the next day I would take his class, 2 in a rows, it is really a bad week  now :)). One surprising little thing I noticed is his attitude has been quite different from which in PLC class, although it’s just my feeling but he really being tougher and being little rigid about exercises. I guess bcoz these illusional students got the abnormal high scores so he want to make it tough :)).

Second of all, writing the experiment reports is so boring and time-consuming, even I had the real one, just check and copy :)).

And the last but not least thing is I can be with my girlfriend and my brother. From my point of view, this is a blessing from Lord, my family, my good friends, my love still being safe and sound.  And that’s it, pretty close to the 300-words-barrier :)). Thanks for your precious time for reading all the way down to these very end line :).

PS: On Oct 17th I would take an exam for PhD position at NTU and I still don’t know which part of knowledge to review, oh I really being fucked up :)).
